Alan Honner

Alan Honner is the principal litigator at Honner Law. His practice focuses on civil litigation, family law, and select criminal and constitutional matters. He has conducted jury and judge-alone trials in Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia. He has also acted as counsel in several judicial reviews and appeals before the Divisional Court, Federal Court of Canada and the Ontario Court of Appeal.

​Alan is known for suing police, lawyers, realtors, and other professionals. He also has significant experience in personal injury, where he acts for both plaintiffs and uninsured defendants, and where he is regularly retained by other lawyers to their conduct their complex motions and trials.

In addition to his private law practice, Alan has regularly engaged in the protection of civil liberties. He has successfully defended the constitutional rights of protestors, street preachers, and persons who have faced legal charges for having the courage to express unpopular opinions. He previously served as Litigation Director at The Democracy Fund, where he led a team of in-house lawyers, secured the organization’s first court intervention, and represented the organization before the Public Order Emergency Commission.

Prior to his role at the Democracy Fund, Alan was a director at the Justice Center for Constitutional freedoms for six years.

Alan holds degrees from Osgoode Hall Law School and the University of Waterloo. He is a member in good standing with the Law Society of Upper Canada
